TSS or toxic shock syndrome is a rare but serious illness that can lead to death
Toxic shock syndrome is cause by the bacteria staphylococcus aureus which is commonly found in nose and vagina.
It occurs in during menstruation and is associated with those women and girls using Tampon.
TSS mainly affects teenage girls and women under 30.
Symptoms: this symptoms starts during menstruation or shortly after and can progress rapidly, and all the symptoms may not be present.
- High fever
- Vomiting
- Diarrhoea
- Severe flu like feeling
- Sore throat
- Rash that looks like sunburn
- Dizziness
- Muscle aches
- Fainting or near fainting when standing up
If you experience any of these symptoms while using a Tampon, remove it and contact a doctor immediately.
If you had TSS once, you can get again, so consult your doctor before using Tampon after TSS.
Toxic syndrome shock can be reduced by:
- You can use pad instead of Tampon.
- Use tampons with minimum absorbency required to meet your needs
- Change Tampon regularly
