The bitter-ugly campaign for the US presidential election 2016 came to an end with a shocking victory of Donald Trump. The Republican claimed his place on Wednesday as America’s 45th president-elect to the White House, after defeating Democrat Hillary Clinton, putting paid to USA’s first chance of getting a woman president.
The controversies surrounding the celebrity-businessman and political novice were many, from sexual assault allegations to racial remarks, but nothing seems to have deterred people from going against him.
His triumph over Clinton, not declared until well after midnight, will be an end to eight years of Democratic dominance of the White House. Trump has already said that he means to undo major policies brought about by President Barack Obama. Trump has pledged to act quickly to repeal Obamacare, the landmark health care law, revoke America’s nuclear agreement with Iran and rewrite important trade deals with other countries, particularly Mexico and Canada
