Postoperative care

Responsibility for our patients does not end when they leave the operating theater – ensuring good eye health and visual outcomes in the long term also requires good postoperative care, counselling and follow-up. This issue offers practical advice and emphasizes the importance of involving patients and family members in postoperative care.

Free online course on trachoma control

Register now for "Eliminating trachoma"

Developed at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine by an international team of trachoma and SAFE strategy experts, the course focuses over 5 weeks on the actions that need to take place at the local community level to eliminate trachoma. This is a great opportunity to learn from the experiences of participants from many other countries fighting to end trachoma.

A team of great educators and facilitators will guide your learning, including: Daksha Patel and Allen Foster from the International Centre for Eye Health, Anthony Solomon, Medical Officer for Trachoma at the WHO, Esmael Habtamu Ali and Angelia Sanders from The Carter Center, Virginia Sarah from the Fred Hollows Foundation and Caleb Mpyet from the University of Jos.

Course materials are optimised for access in settings with irregular or low quality internet access. For example, videos are also made available as downloadable presentations in text and PDF formats. Materials are published as Open Educational Resources (OER) so they can be freely shared, adapted and re-used by learners and educators. They will remain available to all learners after the course completion.

The course has just started (Monday October 3rd) and is open for registration throughout.
